Goran Ivaniševic was born in Split, Croatia on 13th September 1971 and is a hugely popular professional tennis player and Olympian. As Samsung and EOC´s ´GET UP AND GO´ Ambassador, Ivaniševic looks forward to supporting and promoting the programme to children across Europe, with several appearances planned in participating countries.
Ivaniševic has taken part in four Olympic Games, first competing in Seoul in 1988. In 1992, he was the flag-bearer at the opening ceremony at Barcelona for newly-independent Croatia, and won Bronze Medals in both the men´s singles and doubles. Ivaniševic also competed at Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.
Ivaniševic is best remembered for being the only person to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon as a wildcard, which he achieved in 2001, having previously been runner-up at the championships in 1992, 1994 and 1998. His successful tennis career claimed a highest singles ranking of World No. 2 (behind Pete Sampras) in 1994. Before retiring from the ATP tour in 2004, Ivaniševic won 22 top-level singles titles and 9 doubles titles.
Ivaniševic has a great passion for the Olympic movement and all sports, with football and basketball his particular loves beyond tennis. He has played football for the Croatian team, Hajduk Split, and his basketball talents were honed from an early age after his grandfather installed a hoop when he was seven1.
